Tracking your Hormones

It is so important to know your hormonal cycle inside out when trying to get pregnant. Not only to identify your fertile window but also to investigate if there could be any insufficiencies contributing to poor ovulation or implantation.

Important Bloods Tests

I cannot emphasise enough the importance of optimising all of your nutrients prior to pregnancy. Deficiencies in B12, iron and vitamin D can all have a negative impact on fertility.  The hormonal bloods including the thyroid are also vitally important as well.  I am happy to take a look at these results once they are back.  For women it’s important to make sure that you get the bloods on the correct days of your cycle or they won’t be accurate.  If you are getting any hassle from your GP surgery in relation to available appointments, explain to the secretary that they are hormonal bloods to investigate to fertility and it’s really important that they are checked on the correct day. Usually they will squeeze you in then.

Optimal Ranges for Pregnancy

I have included a link below for my recommended blood ranges when preparing for pregnancy. What’s normal for the average person isn’t necessarily optimum for someone trying to conceive.  Especially with the hormones, it’s so important that the progesterone is checked on the correct day and high enough to support implantation.  These levels are based on Functional Medicine ranges, which aim to bring the body to peak health rather than just avoiding disease.
